This new feature might be called “voice status”. Whatsapp is rolling out a new beta program update in the 2.22.16.3 version where this new option is spotted. The latest beta version brings new improvements for status updates. By this, Whatsapp is expanding the functionality of status updates.

WhatsApp Working On ‘Voice Status’ Feature

Recently, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Whatsapp is rolling out an ability to use any type of emoji to react to received messages. Earlier, there were only six emojis available to react. Apart from this, users can also customize emojis. According to WaBetaInfo, the instant messaging app is working on adding voice notes on status updates. In the screenshot, we can see a new icon in the status tab at the bottom that will allow sending voice notes as a status. However, this voice note will be shared only with the selected people as your privacy settings for status. The voice will be end-to-end encrypted as images and videos. Currently, this feature is under development. So, first, it will release for beta testers and then for other users. This means there is a lot of time to get this feature for everyone. Apart from this, Whatsapp is also working on a feature for iOS users that will let them hide their online status from everyone. Currently, users can select contacts to whom they want to show their “Last Seen” or no one. In recent months, Whatsapp has added many new features like message reactions, the ability to share files up to 2GB, support for 512 members of the group, and more.
